Dean of the University of Maryland School of Medicine Visit

On April 14th, 2026, the MedBridge Society was honored to host the Dean of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Mark Gladwin! UMBC’s very own president, Dr. Valerie Sheares Ashby, also attended to welcome Dr. Gladwin.

While these skills are routine for healthcare workers, knowing how to take vital signs is an important skill for any healthcare provider, providing a quick assessment tool. MedBridge Society officers taught students how to take a blood pressure, assess pulse oximetry readings, improvise a torniquet, and listen to breath sounds.

For one of our firsts events, Easlyn Flores, MedBridge’s Event Coordinator, taught students key phlebotomy skills like tying a torniquet, palpating for a good vein, and drawing blood.

MedBridge Society also hosts talks from various professionals from healthcare or healthcare-adjacent fields. On the left is Joey Kasura, a volunteer paramedic/firefighter at Chestnut Ridge Volunteer Fire Company, and a career paramedic for Fort Meade. On the right is Neal Brown, a medical malpratice lawyer.
